The Fuente de Galápagos is probably the first fountain that you come to when you enter Madrid's Retiro Park (either from the main gates or the Metro station). It is situated opposite the Fuente de Alcachofa and at one of the corners of the lake. It was designed by Javier de Mariátegui and sculpted by José Tomás y Genevés in 1831 to commemorate the birth of the future Queen Isabel II. It came to the Retiro in 1879, having previously been located in the Plaza de Santa Ana.
