I am going to Madrid in October with 10 friends for my hen weekend. We are staying in the Hotel francisco in the centre of the city (by the Plaza Mayor.) Any suggestions as to where the best night life is? We prefer a bit of cheesy music- 70's, 80's and the like.

I am looking for a good description of the personalities of the various sections of Madrid in order to determine in which neighborhood I'd like to stay. Any ideas?
Thanks

La Torre del Oro - we wandered into this bar as it was quiet and smoke free. Ordered a drink from the bar and then the barmen were asking about whether we wanted tapas - no prices and we thought (naively) that prices would be the same as other bars, about 10 euros a plate - to our shock when we got the bill a small plate of gamberetti cost 20 euros. No wonder there are photos of politicians, film and music stars along with the bullfighting - these are the only people who can afford to eat here. In Italy it is against the law not to advertise the price of food - perhaps Spain needs to learn a lesson or stop ripping off tourists in this recession driven time.
