TypePad Domain Mapping

Wow! I finally got there. It has taken an age for me to finally get domain mapping sorted out. Many thanks to Brenna and the guys at Go Daddy for their patience. I also got help from the people at the TypePad User Group, too - which is a very useful address to know.

Click the link below to see how I managed to map www.madaboutmadrid.com to madrid.blogs.com through Godaddy.

Having selected the "Advanced DNS" setting next to your domain name, you then enter the following details for records "A" and "CNAME":

Zone Record Name ----- Zone Record Type ----- Zone Record Value
@ ----- A ----- 123.123.123.123 (my IP address)
www ----- CNAME ----- mydomain.blogs.com

Make sure that you click "save" once you have entered the information and don't forget you can only save one record at a time. The next thing I did was to select "MX" from the menu and type: mydomain.com

I think they recommend you leave it 24-48 hours but mine was done quicker. What I did was to run through the domain mapping procedure a number of times (on TypePad) - setting it "Active" - until it finally mapped. If it didn't map, I simply deleted the entry (selecting "Remove" and then clicking the "Remove" button), left it a few hours and started again.

And now I am the proud owner of www.madaboutmadrid.com and well chuffed!

Glad it works for you, and thanks for posting in that Unofficial forum. I ran a search there and followed you here. Domain mapping works for me as well though I used to be able to use http://tenorman.net/ but I know need the "www" in front. Wish I knew why.

Take care,

Maybe Typepad needs the "www".

I don't need to do that The next thing I did was to select "MX" from the menu and type: mydomain.com unless I have a mail server that conflicts, right?

Sorry to bother you.

I forwarded it to the "www" address, it works now.

I look forward to your posts on Madrid.

There's even a Google News Espana: http://news.google.com/news/es/es/main.html now.

Hi Aaron

Glad to see everything worked out OK and thanks for being the first person to comment on my site!! Cheers for the Google link and hope you'll keep an eye on a new website I'm creating on Marketing - www.marketingtom.com

Cheers Alun

I did a search on google for "how to setup godaddy domain for use with typepad" and your site was the first one listed. Kudos to you for figuring out the domain mapping. I'm dying to get my toolreviews.biz domain to map to my (soon to be developed) tool review blog

You wrote: "Click the link below to see how I managed to map www.madaboutmadrid.com to madrid.blogs.com through Godaddy.", yet I couldn't find what link you were referring to.

When I'm logged into my GoDaddy account, I don't see any way to choose 'advanced DNS'. Can you help?

I have just put a post on my other blog Marketing Tom (http://www.marketingtom.com/2004/07/domain_name_map.html) which should answer this.

I also ound this page through google. Thanks for your help. You just ended two days of frustration for me.

Thanks for the information. I had a hard time settin up the domain mapping until I found your instructions. I know this post is old, but the information is very help for new typepad customers.

Thanks again.

Hi. Thanks for the useful info! How do you do the same so you don't have to type www? For instance, just joeygadget.com instead of www.joeygadget.com? Thanks in advance, Joe
